Our School Attended the Summary and Awarding Meeting on the First Teaching Contest for Shanghai Young College Teachers

September 10, on the occasion of the 30th Teacher's Day, Huang Youfang, the president of Shanghai Maritime University, the head of our School union and the dean of our Office of Academic Affairs along with two young teachers who got the first prize the First in the Teaching Contest for young college teachers of Shanghai attended the Summary and Awarding Meeting which was held in Shanghai Normal University. Wan Mingdong, the vice president of Chinese Trade Union on Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports, Du Renwei, the vice president of Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions and Yu Lijuan, the vice secretary of the Party of Educational and Health Affairs attended this Summary and Awarding Meeting.

President Huang Youfang addressed a speech and exchanged views with others at the meeting, sharing experiences in this Teaching Contest for young college teachers. He hoped that those young teachers winning the honor could take this contest as an opportunity, motivate more young teachers and the massive faculties to firmly establish the concept of lifelong learning, go further study, broaden horizons, update knowledge, continuously enhance the operational capacity and the educational and teaching quality and endeavor to become the highly-qualified teacher with excellent professions and enjoying the popularity among students.

In late June,this year, Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, the Party Committee of Educational and Health Affairs and the Municipal Education Commission jointly issued the notice on convening the First Teaching Contest for young college teachers of Shanghai. Our university attached great importance to this contest and actively called on teachers to participate. Eventually, Professor Wang Tianzhen from the College of Logistics and Engineering, Professor Jiang Hui from the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor Yu Jun from the College of Economics and Management participated in this contest on behalf of our university.

Under the strong support of our university and their unremitting efforts, they received outstanding achievements. Professor Wang Tianzhen and Professor Jiang Hui won the first prize and successfully applied for the “Shanghai May 1 labor medals” as the top two of their respective groups. Professor Yu Jun got the third prize. Moreover, Professor Wang Tianzhen went to Wu Han to take part in the finals of the Second National Teaching Contest for Young College Teachers in August representing Shanghai and won the national third prize and our university also won Outstanding Organization Award in this contest.

The Teaching Contest for young college teachers of Shanghai hosted by Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, the Party Committee of Educational and Health Affairs and the Municipal Education Commission aim at promoting the operational capacity and the educational and teaching quality of the young teachers, giving into full play the function of the Teaching Contest as a Leading role model in improving the quality of the teachers, fostering the spirit of dedication, devotion and meticulous scholarship so as to further activate the enthusiasm of the massive young teachers to update the educational concept and master the modern teaching methods,so as to strive to build a highly-qualified and professional teams of teachers with noble morality, excellent professions, reasonable structure and full of vigor and vitality,as well as actively promote the scientific development of the higher education in Shanghai.
